Job Description

LST provides services to support programs within the FAA Communications, Information and Network Programs Group (CINP) to accomplish their mission objectives. CINP is responsible for the implementation and execution of communications infrastructure programs supporting the National Airspace System (NAS) and non-NAS systems and networks.

 

LST provides a broad range of System Engineering; Acquisition and Program Management Support; In-Service Management and Support; Business and Financial Management; Information Systems Development and Support; Studies, Analyses, and Evaluations; and other services required by the Group.

 

There are currently six groups and programs within CINP:

  • Enterprise Programs,
  • Enterprise Infrastructure Services,
  • Air/Ground Voice Communications,
  • NAS Voice Systems,
  • SWIM, and
  • FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI)-2.

 

The Enterprise Engineer will create solutions and configurations for project-related issues, databases, and should have vast experience with specific systems commonly used across the industry and in the programs listed above.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Provide objective, rigorous assessment of new NAS and programs to help identify opportunities to streamline, consolidate, integrate solution to enable investment, operational, or technical efficiencies.
  • Provide engineering support to the Enterprise Solutions for the CINP Organization.
  • Manage multiple projects, keep track and identify new tasks or adjust existing task and expectations as projects evolve
  • Apply the latest technologies, methods, approaches, and products that can lead to new, innovative solutions and best practices for the CINP client.
  • Coordinate with a team of professionals who are both technical and non-technical to keep tasks progressing forward
  • Candidate should be familiar with the FAA Joint Resources Council (JRC), Architecture Review Board (ARB), Operations Integration Board (OIB), and similar decision making boards.
  • Must have proven social and interpersonal skills
  • Planning and development of new capabilities and improvements to existing capabilities.
  • Identifying and analyzing requirements, assessing system designs and architectures, and planning and evaluating test activities to help to ensure that vendor-provided solutions meet the FAA's operational needs.
  • Perform lifecycle engineering to identify and manage requirements for system lifecycle attributes including but not limited to deployment and transition, integrated logistics support, sustainment and technology evolution, and disposal
  • Provide support associated with identifying and analyzing candidate alternatives and concepts that address system issues, shortfalls, technological defects, end-of-service issues, and other issues
  • Support strategic mission analysis, program mission analysis and investment analysis activities.  Develop operational concepts for supported programs and their translation into NextGen capabilities, operational improvements, and performance requirements
  • Support development of international standards for aviation safety, performance, and interoperability

 

Requirements

 

  • Must have a minimum of 15-20 years of experience in engineering or contracting support.
  • Must have an in-depth understanding of the NAS, including its domains, its enterprise services, and its overall operational concepts
  • Must possess, maintain, and apply an in-depth understanding of industry-standard reference architectures, the NAS Enterprise Architecture framework, and NAS subsystem functions and interfaces.
  • Knowledge and related experience with network engineering, Datacom, and voice-switching.
  • Experience with MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Excel.
  • Ability to multi-task, handle a high-paced work environment, and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Excellent writing, oral communication, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to perform detailed work with little guidance and to interact in a positive manner with other government and industry personnel

 

 

 Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering (civil, electrical, electronic, chemical, industrial, mechanical, aeronautical, avionics, environmental or computer) from a college or university with a degree curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)
  • Advanced Degree preferred (but not a requirement for the position).
